Saturday afternoon musings

It's a beautiful evening here in Rhode Island.  The sun is just starting to go down, it's just the right temperature and I hear giggles from Paul's room.  Henry is sitting on the couch with the remote, watching 5 minutes of this and 5 minutes of that.  Dinner is done and so are the dishes.  Such peace!  It doesn't get much better than this.  Wishing you peace, too.

Bracelet with Jade, Amazonite, and Ametrine by Edi's Little Treasures

Dragonfly bowl by Catherine Reece

Freshwater pearl multistrand necklace by Debs Designs

These beautiful pieces all give me that warm, cozy feeling.
What gives you a feeling of peace?

Now, if you've stuck with me so far, I have an announcement to make!  My husband Henry, my friend & partner Annie and I are opening up a store!  We will sell fine art and handcrafted items all by local (Rhode Island) artists!!  It's tiny, about 700 square feet, but it's a start!  We'll hold crafting workshops, have an artist in for demonstrations once a week or so, and who knows what else.  We hope to open by mid-June, but there's lots of work to be done first!  I'll keep you updated as to our progress and you're all invited to the Grand Opening!  So be on the lookout for a small shop called Anything Goes!

Kreativ Blogger Award!

I just logged onto my Facebook page and received this lovely message -from Jane Glenholmes of Groovy Pumpkin;  Hello, I've got something on my Blog for you to pick up - please come and visit: http://groovypumpkin.blogspot.com/2010/05/kreativ-blogger-award.html

Of course I went right away!  Jane has awarded me the Kreativ Blogger award!!  There are rules to accepting this award, but they are pretty simple.  I just need to type 7 things that you may not know about me, then pick 7 people to pass the award on to, so here are the Blogs I'm passing this fabulous Award to, in no particular order:
 Debs Designs - http://debsdesigns401.blogspot.com/
LA Glass - http://laglass.blogspot.com/
Dean Designs - http://homeofthepurskey.blogspot.com/
Waterwaif - http://waterwaif.blogspot.com/
Temporary Insanity - http://temporaryinsanity-terriehall.blogspot.com/
Made for Me by Oaklie - http://madeformebyoaklie.blogspot.com/
Luna Essence - http://lunaessence.blogspot.com/

I read and enjoy each one of these and hope you will, too.  Check them all out!!

Seven things you may not know about me...that may be a little harder to do...
  • Although I'm pushing at 60 (a little too hard)  I used to be a bona fide hippie.  Back in the late 60s & 70s I lived a very loose lifestyle and truly enjoyed living that free life.
  • My husband & I, with my friend & partner Annie, are opening up a brick & mortar store!!  We will be selling fine art and handcrafted items made by local artisans!  We hope to open in mid-June...I'll keep you posted.
  • I love to read.  In my previous home I had a library.  When we moved into this home there was no room, so I donated 40 cartons of books to the public library!  I read fiction.  My two favorite novels of all time are The Stand by Stephen King, and Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane.  I don't really read "good" books, I love mysteries, thrillers and a real good "girl" book.  Book suggestion - Still Alice, about a Harvard professor who gets early onset Alzheimer's.  It's told in her perspective and it will break your heart.
  • I do crossword puzzles whenever I get the chance.  I'm OK at them, not great, but good enough to enjoy the challenge.
  • I thought I'd never be on Facebook!  I couldn't imagine that I would have any reason to!  Imagine...and now I have over 100 friends, over 300 fans (likes) and I even Tweet!
  • I got a tattoo when I was 56!  My first one.  It's a crescent moon with golden stars tumbling from it.
  • I would rather hang out with my husband than do almost anything else!!
I'm sure there is a lot more that you don't know about me, but a girl has to have a few secrets!!

Many thanks, again, to Jane from Groovy Pumpkin for this honor!

Outta Sight!

It's Tuesday - and that means we feature a new artist from On Fire for Handmade!  Each week all members of this fabulous group feature the same artist.  This week it's my pleasue to shine the spotlight on London and her shop Outta Sight.

Outta Sight.jpg

London has beautiful pieces in her shop! "Outta Sight" - Well, not quite. Londaon tells us, "I am blind in my left eye and have the equivalent of looking through a drinking straw in my right eye. The beautiful picture you see is Dolly, my guide dog. Making jewelry is an unfortunate hobby for a blind person, but I love it!

Celebrate Awareness is a collection I am excited about because we all support causes that are special to us. These necklaces, bracelets, and earrings allow you to show your own awareness and present a heartfelt gift to others. Choose your Cause or Color, and let me know if you have any special requests"!

London is a true inspiration to me!

I hope you will check out London and her beautiful jewelry.

Special Olympics follow up

As a follow up to Friday's post about the Olympic games on Saturday - Paul was awesome!  Not only did he complete his race, he did it like a champ and hustled all the way to the end.  Paul took home the gold medal!

Paul racing, with his coach Eli.

Proud and happy!
Thanks to everyone for their good wishes, interest & support.  I'll do another follow-up after the state games in June!
